Need to get rid of a freezer, washing machine or other bulky electrical item?

Whether you’re moving out or upgrading your fridge, oven or other large electrical, it’s easy to book a local bulky waste collection service. They will collect and recycle your large, old electricals for you. Some also offer donations for reuse.

Simply search your ‘local council’s name’ and ‘bulky waste collection’, eg ‘Bolton bulky waste collection.’ Plenty of local private waste collectors will also come up in your search results too.

Cost

Whether it’s a private service or a council one, you’ll probably need to pay a fee. Concessions may be available for elderly or disabled residents.

Do I need to be in?

You’ll generally be able to leave items for recycling in an accessible place outside for collection, unless you need larger items collected from your home. If you have items for reuse, you’ll probably need to be in to hand them over.

This varies, and some services have a weight limit, so double-check with the provider. Generally there will be a separate, more expensive service offered for business waste, so make sure you’re selecting the right one.

Speed

Response times vary widely. Council response time can be up to two weeks, but can be as fast as next day! Some councils only offer bulky waste collection mid-week.
