The Hidden Treasure Hunt is a competition to encourage families across the UK to give our old electricals a new lease of life – whether by recycling or donating them. The competition launches as part of Waste Week 2022 on 17 March and runs til 14 April. Find out more at Hidden Treasure Hunt.
Waste Week is a popular annual campaign that helps schools and families in the UK reduce, reuse, and recycle. It aims to unlock the social, economic, and environmental benefits of reducing waste. This year the organisers Wastebuster is partnering with Currys, Microsoft and Recycle Your Electricals. Together we’re calling on over 3.8 million students and parents to make this the largest collection of e-waste in the UK. Over 200 schools have already signed up to Waste Week. Find out more about Waste Week.
The Hidden Treasure Hunt runs from 17 March to 14 April 2022.
A fantastic array of new curriculum-linked, media-rich educational resources will be available for teachers to support student learning as part of Waste Week and the Hidden Treasure Hunt. They include a film featuring popular children’s characters that explores how electrical waste is recycled. Find out more.
To take part in the Hidden Treasure Hunt competition take your electricals to a Currys store between 17 March and 14 April 2022. If you don’t have a Currys store locally, find your nearest electrical reuse and recycling point by popping your postcode in our recycling locator. There are already thousands of recycling points across the UK and we’re adding more to the database all the time. However official recycling registrations are only possible when electricals have been taken to Currys stores.
If you’ve dropped off your electricals for recycling at a Currys store, you will be able to report your great work to count towards your school’s total via the Hidden Treasure Hunt website. You’ll need to give some details, including your email address, the Currys store where you donated your items, the date of the donation and what type of electrical items you’ve recycled. You’ll then be able to nominate your school to give them a boost in the competition.
Schools should register via The Pod. Once signed up, your school will receive a Waste Week campaign pack and Hidden Treasure Hunt materials including posters and a homework sheet. They will also get a unique code, used to track the number of people nominating them for the competition.
