Tamzin Outhwaite donates her old electricals to charity

EastEnders star boxes up electrical treasure.

Tamzin Outhwaite, the TV and stage actor, has encouraged her social media followers to find their nearest electrical recycling point and recycle their unwanted electricals – or to follow her lead and donate them to charity.

The EastEnders and New Tricks actor posted to Instagram after learning about the huge potential value locked up in old electronic and electrical gear.

“I have done a massive sort out as I was inspired by @recycleyourelectricals_ #cashinyourelectricals campaign to do something with the huge pile of old electricals I have found in my house,” Tamzin wrote.

Alongside a selfie showing her using a Recycle Your Electricals collection box, she revealed that she would be donating her haul to the Greenwich branch of homelessness charity Emmaus. Numerous charities now accept donations of second-hand electrical and electronic equipment for resale or to pass on to people who can make ood use of them.

Tamzin revealed that she had been surprised to learn how much old electricals can be worth. “You can also make on average £620 per household by selling electricals,” she wrote.

Country-wide we are hoarding electrical equipment that could be worth some £370 million to the UK economy, according to research by Recycle Your Electricals published in November 2020.

Electricals often contain precious metals that can be recovered and reused, and many working devices can refurbished and re-sold. Meanwhile, anything with a plug, battery or cable can be recycled.
